Environmental Testing

Environmental testing involves exposing a package or product to controlled temperatures and humidity in order to reproduce the conditions that the package/product is expected to survive in its transportation, storage and operating life. After exposure, the package or product is assessed for damage.

Environmental testing is comprised of various tests. In the military, aerospace & automotive industries, environmental testing is considered as incorporating all kinds of stress that a product might experience (including mechanical elements such as shock, vibration and operational stress) plus temperature and humidity.

Other industries (and at DDL), consider environmental testing to be separate from mechanical testing and, for this reason, refer to environmental testing as stress induced by temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors such as:

- Exposure to dust (outside machinery eg. cars)
- Exposure to fungus (sitting in a dark, moist place)
- Exposure to corrosion
- Exposure to sunlight

DDL has a separate environmental testing laboratory for these kinds of projects.  For more information on how DDL can serve your environmental testing needs, fill in the contact form below or call DDL at 1.800.229.4235.
